How does forklift rental work?
There’s a question we get asked often here at Eureka Forklifts and that’s ‘how does your forklift rental work?’. The answer to this question, like many things in life, is ‘it depends’. There are many different types of forklifts and rental periods that make answering this basic question a little tricky but we’re going to break down all the options of forklift rental and rental periods so we can hopefully shine a light on how forklift rental works and how much it will likely cost you.
Forklift rental starts with knowing what you’re going to lift
The first thing you will need to figure out is what type of forklift you need. To do this you will need to know the types of loads you’re wanting to move. Are you only moving pallets of goods, picking up a range of products from boxes, to planks of wood to sheets of metal or are you going to be moving shipping containers or require the ability to lift items from a considerable height?
Each of the scenarios listed above can require either a different type of forklift or a different forklift attachment. This is why at Eureka Forklifts we will ask you about the environment your forklift is going to be working in, what you will be lifting and where it will be moved from and to. This helps us to establish a better understanding of the type of forklift and associated attachments you may need so we can match you up with the best machine to suit your needs.
Should I rent or should I buy?
This is a question we get asked all the time. Purchasing a forklift is a considerable investment and buying one second hand can certainly help to reduce your initial costs of getting a forklift. Renting a forklift gives you a range of flexible options including flexible terms of hire, a lower cash investment and a choice of makes and models.
If you’re only going to be using a forklift for a short period of time (less than 12-24 months) then renting a forklift is a very good option as purchasing, using, then trying to sell a forklift within a 1-2 year period is a surefire way to lose money.
Here’s just a few of the benefits of renting a forklift vs purchasing a forklift:-
- Flexible terms
- Flexibility of adding attachments
- Scalability (it's much cheaper to rent several forklifts than purchase)
- Possible tax deductions
- Fixed costs
- Low cost up front investment
Is there a minimum timeframe that I have to rent for?
Not at all. We have very flexible rental agreements available for our forklift hire. For example, our casual forklift hire will cover you for anything from one day up to three months. We also have short term rental for people who only require a machine for a few months and long term rental for anyone needing to hire a forklift for more than a 12 month period.
